This page describes the events of the date listed at the top, a day in which we left Twillingate and headed down to St. John's.

This was yet another travelling day. We left Twillingate and surroundings, and headed down the road towards St. John's. We passed the turn-off to the Fogo Island Ferry (we had to miss that adventure this time) and made out way to Gander and the North American Aviation Museum, then down to T____ Park, and, ultimately to our new digs in St. John's.

Summary of the Day

A description of the day's events which included:

  • Packing up and leaving Twillingate, driving to ...
  • ... Gander and the Aviation Museum
  • Terra Nova National Park
  • Photographing birds at
  • Arrival in St. John's

We began by packing up all of our things, loading into the vehicles and hitting the road again. We headed down the highway, heading for Gander, passing the road to the ferry for Fogo Island. Eventually, we arrived in Gander.

The only tourist stop we made in Gander was at the North Atlantic Aviation Museum not far from Gander International Airport. We had made lunch in Twillingate, and had it at the museum, and toured the building which was a tribute to Ferry Command during World War II. Linda inquired of the staff, and found a log which documented a flight made by her father during the war when he landed at Gander before flying his aircraft across the Atlantic!

Continuing on our way, we arrived at Terra Nova National Park. Andy inquired there about locations where he could photograph eagles, and was given advice to back track a short way and check out two small communities just before the park named Culls Harbour and Traytown. Andy, Linda, and Jeff made that trip and Andy got pictures (at a distance) of an osprey pulling a fish from the water!

While the others were looking for birds of prey, Megan, Jamie, and Ollie went for a hike on a trail in Terra Nova and then headed first down towards St. John's, found, and unpacked at our St. John's destination, a cottage directly overlooking St. John's Harbour.

Andy and the others arrived in St. John's about an hour and a half later. Ollie was already asleep. There was a large ship directly opposite us in the harbour, and, looking it up online we discovered that the vessel was a United States naval vessel - an ocean going cable laying ship.
